It's been about two weeks since I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art. I earned my degree in Photography and Humanistic Studies with a minor in Sustainability and Social Practice. It's an incredibly exciting time, but I'm finally getting able to reflect on my entire undergraduate experience, and it's been truly incredible. I was honored enough to be asked to present Carrie Mae Weems, with an honorary doctorate degree.
This was incredibly amazing and I am lucky to have been given the chance to connect with Carrie, and also meet DeRay McKesson (who was also presented an honorary degree). Not much else to say other than, I was truly stunned and incredibly honored to be able to meet her. In the past year, I've been able to meet Shirin Neshat, was chosen in a show curated by Deborah Willis, and was able to present Carrie Mae Weems with her degree. It's been an amazing year being able to meet THE most influential artists to my own art practice, and I'm incredibly grateful to have spent my undergrad years at MICA.
